Their main feature are carbonless self-copying pages (The original record gives an instant duplicate on the copy page without putting any additional carbon sheet in between the pages). Students tear out a copy page and hand it to the teacher while keeping the original record in their notebook. Teachers collect only the copy pages, not the entire heavy notebooks.
